'In the series, Ostoya sets into motion a leitmotif: a square is transposed from one canvas to the next in a sequence of ten. The square — a shape prized for the purity of its form by the Suprematists and other modernists—evolves as it slides from one canvas into the next. Recycling leftover materials from earlier works and reclaiming distinct art-historical traditions, these paintings and collages are retrospective investigations of historical permanence and transition, continuity and rupture.' Martha Kirszenbaum: Preface, DF Press & La Kunsthalle Mulhouse catalogue, 2014
'And one more feature of the Ostoyascope: its peculiar construction allows it to be set up at variable distances behind itself. The ten paintings called Transpositions are a case in point: they follow the progress of a square through a sequence of varied aesthetic landscapes, each painting in a new idiom; the square, which migrates from right to left as the sequence proceeds, is always a photograph of a detail from the previous canvas.' Jeff Dolven: The Ostoyascope, Zachęta catalogue, 2018
